Detailed Design Brief

Overview

Management Team

After submititing the Feasibility Study documents, a recommended option will be decided on and will be presented to the client. The client may  accept the recommendation as is, or negotiate some changes. At the end of this process a brief needs to be developed for the detailed design stage that will provide key information regarding about the design recommendation. The Detailed design mainly focuses on the main aspects of the design and it highlights the main concepts, time constraints, options and budgeting. A final outcome will be clearly presented through various drawings of the prefered option along with justifications and requirments.

The detailed design brief will include a proposed organisation structure, Gantt chart and quotation to complete the Detailed Design in the following 5 weeks.

Structural Solutions have undergone a feasibility study to determine a suitable preliminary design of a motorway for the North-South corridor  (Section R4). Two possible solutions were investigated, the first option being an elevated motorway that was to span the entire design area. The second option was the implementation of a lowered motorway with the use of a tunnel to negotiate the Henley Beach road intersection. The second option, the lowered motorway, was deemed to be the most feasible option. This design brief will focus on the area surrounding the Henley Beach Road and South Road intersection. With heritage buildings on each side of the road restricting the width available, the tunnel will be able to travel below the surface allowing the local access traffic to operate on top of the tunnel. The design brief area will also extend north and south of the intersection, this will allow the entry and exit ramps to be incorporated in the design.
